Hello design lovers!
We are sharing one of our favorite kitchen renovations today! Without changing the layout of the room, we gave this Lehigh Valley kitchen a much needed facelift. It is now so dreamy!
Our Goal
Brightening this kitchen, and giving it an elegant modern vibe, was our goal when designing this space.
Our Challenge
We worked with the existing cabinetry. Instead of replacing the cabinets, we had them painted white. We then added a custom gray glaze. This warmed up the look of the doors and added character. If you are thinking about painting kitchen cabinetry, consider the craftsperson doing the work. If their process is not done well, they will look uneven and blotchy, not feel smooth, and will surely chip. It can be an expensive investment to do, but totally worth it!
The Design
We literally started from the floor up with our design. The wood floor was original to when the house was built, and had seen better days. We replaced it with a COREtec vinyl floor that looked like wood planks but in a gray tone. This floor rocks! It is water resistant, pet and kid friendly, and easy to keep clean!
The counter top is quartz and has little bits of sparkle in it. We used a handmade ceramic elongated subway tile in a gorgeous deep gray finish.
Silver tones were an ongoing theme in this kitchen, starting with the new cabinet hardware that shows off a bit of a contemporary flair. Simple, modern, and very appealing to the eye.
Our Favorite Parts
Our two favorite changes that turned this from a bright kitchen, into a dreamy chic space, are the dramatic use of lighting and furniture!
Lighting is everything! It really does set the mood. We mixed things up with a combination of an industrial chandelier over the kitchen table, and a more elegant polished pair of pendants over the island. We use dimmers so the light can be manually controlled. Want a romantic dinner? Dim the light!
The second major change is the furniture. Comfortable and stylish oversize stools make this island a great place to sit and chill for a while. The fun pattern keeps the room from feeling utilitarian. The teal finish on the dining table base is a happy moment! Yes, the kitchen furniture is all custom, and so worth it because they are beautiful and very well-made. Have fun with lighting and furniture; don’t go for the ordinary.
