We Are Design Lovers Too!

Our blog posts are created and written by the interior designer experts at Love Your Room, Shoshana Gosselin and Jenn Bonner.  We want to share our love of home design and decorating with you! If we come across a design problem during a project we are working on, there is a good chance you will have a similar dilemma and be interested in knowing how we handled it.  We also love to share ‘before and after’ photos of spaces we transformed that could be inspirational to you. Our posts will be chock full of tips, tricks, and products we are crazy about.

Our Very First Post!

We are starting off with a design dilemma a homeowner in Bethlehem PA asked us to assist with. She lives in a gorgeous Saucon Valley home that was built to entertain. It is a grand house indeed! When you walk in the front door there is a two story enormous living room.

The Problem:

It was such a long space that our client did not know how to utilize it all.

Our Plan:
  • Design seating pieces that could be arranged in multiple ways

  • Create a cozy environment through intimate settings

  • Install ‘moments of grandeur’ that will make the most of the architectural elements

  • Choose a color palette that coordinates with the rest of the home so it feels cohesive when seen from other rooms

  • Install several sources of lighting that can be used to create different moods

When your room is right off the foyer, is the length of a dinosaur, and high enough to grow a tree in, it is shouting for attention.

We made sure to treat the walls and the ceiling to make the biggest impact possible, using an updated traditional vibe in Livable Luxury style. What is Livable Luxury? Glamorous upholstery and finishes that are durable and cozy so it blends with how we live.

This room is used as a gathering spot for an active family of five, and many community events are also held here. Creating two seating areas keep conversations intimate, and having chairs allow the homeowners to arrange the room in various ways to open it up to larger group gatherings.

The ceiling height was incredible but felt so far away from the seating.

To take advantage of the dramatic loftiness and the multiple tray ceilings, we decided to install wallpaper that looked like copper metal. A super large five foot by five foot chandelier with 45 bulbs made the biggest impact. Lighting is the most important element in the room because it controls the mood.

A new patterned carpet replaced the boring brown one. Pattern under furniture is flirty and fun!

The homeowners owned this buffet that fit the scale of the wall.

New dramatic cabinet knobs were all that this piece of furniture needed to make it grand and unique.

Rooms with unexpected pieces and style, placed together, give a space interest, lots of feeling, and make it special! Above all else, including trends and opinions from others; make sure your room, whether big or small, feels wonderful to you. That is what makes a house a home.
